South America

This half of the American continent lies almost entirely in the Southern Hemisphere, and is home to many of the largest natural features in the world; the Andes, Angel Falls in Venezuela and the Amazon in Brazil are the longest mountain range, highest uninterrupted waterfall and largest river respectively. The majesty of the landscape in South America is stunning in photographs alone, but actually visiting phenomena such as the Bolivian salt flats and the surreally perfect backdrop of the Chilean Andes will give students an unforgettable experience - such scenery seems almost too alien for this world.

The scenery aside, South America has some truly vibrant cities teeming with culture unlike anywhere else in the world. The famous Rio carnival season is a celebration like no other with literally millions of participants on the streets every day, and every month of the year has some sort of celebration going on somewhere - even the winter periods have week long parties. A trip to South America would never be boring, and the variety of things you can see just walking down the streets will keep anybody on their toes. The weather on the continent is reasonably unpredictable and can vary quite a lot depending on how far above sea level you are, but is generally pretty pleasant and a great background for a trip.
