Inverness

Gateway to the mountains, Inverness is a city in the north of Scotland whose skyline is dominated by the castle which sits on the river bank.

To the north of the city lies the Craig Phadrig an area that offers forest walks, magnificent views of the Moray Firth and ideal areas for wildlife spotting.

The winter sees skiing and snowsports taking over the entire area, at any time of year while a trip around Loch Ness will see your students hunting for the Loch Ness monster. While there are countless outdoor activity providers to take you out adventuring, climbing, mountaineering, rafting or canyoning in the mountains and glens, you will perhaps be surprised to learn about the lush tropical oasis which is Inverewe Park and Gardens.

To the east of the city lies Culloden Moor, where the English put down the Jacobite rebellion of Bonnie Prince Charlie in the last battle fought on British soil in 1746. A visit to the Visitor Centre there allows a fascinating insight into the history of the Union between England and Scotland.
