Hemel Hempstead’s new town was built after World War II. There is a cathedral near the city centre, along with other historic buildings of interest. The town boasts a ski and snowboard centre, as well as venues for motor sport experiences. There is also a shopping centre and a weekly market to explore.
The surrounding area includes the towns of Aylesbury (which boasts over 170 listed buildings to visit), High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Berkhamsted, and includes attractions such as Roald Dahl's House, the Hellfire Caves (above), Buckingham Old Gaol and the great country houses of Cliveden, Hughenden and Waddesdon Manor. You can also wander across over 2,500 miles of country walking pathways or watch sport at the birthplace of the Paralympics, Stoke Mandeville Stadium.
