The Wellcome Collection

The Wellcome Collection

The free destination for the incurably curious

The Wellcome Collection is a unique mix of galleries and events, the world-famous Wellcome Library, a cafe, bookshop and conference centre.

It brings to life Sir Henry Wellcome's vision of a place where people could learn more about the development of medicine through the ages and across cultures.

Exhibiitions include Medicine Now, The Human Condition and Brain Showcase. Plus see Francis Crick's sketch of the double helix DNA molecule.

We are currently investing in a major development project to transform Wellcome Collection into a bigger and bolder venue. Building work began in August 2013 and we will be revealing our new spaces from autumn 2014 until we're due to finish the project in spring 2015.

Wellcome Collection will remain open throughout the development, but some of our galleries (including 'Medicine Man') will be closed temporarily.

Schools and youth groups

Our Youth Programme offers study days, tours, events and projects for schools and youth groups.

we offer free, guided tours of the galleries for groups of 8 to 20. Please note that we consider our gallery content to be most suitable for visitors aged 14 plus.

To organise a group visit, please email [email protected] telling us a little more about your group, the proposed date(s) and time(s) of your visit, number of people, and which galleries you would like to visit.

From spring 2014, we will have a range of free study days designed for people aged 14-19. Although these are intended to link in with the National Curriculum, we also welcome students on enrichment days and youth and community groups.

To find out more about booking a session from spring 2014 onwards, please contact the Youth Programme team.

If you would like to keep up to date with what's happening over the next year and be first to hear about our new projects, please sign up to our termly e-newsletter. Email your name, email address and organisation to [email protected] and indicate whether you would like to receive our teachers' news or youth workers' news.

Development

Wellcome Collection is changing.

As part of our curious journey, our spaces and exhibitions are changing: Medicine Man and our ground floor special exhibition space are temporarily closing, and there may be some noise and clutter throughout the year. As a consequence, we won’t be able to offer the study days or guided tours we have in the past; however, brand new spaces are planned and we're working on exciting alternatives.

If you are interested in seeing what we can offer during this period of change, please get in touch and we'll let you know what we can do.

We will be offering study days again from spring 2014. Please see our study days informationpage for more information.
