Wallingford Museum
Wallingford Museum has a lot to offer for its season ticket this year!
The main special exhibition is 'Siege and Strife: Wallingford and War’ looking at the impact war has had on the town and its people throughout the centuries. You can find out how the townspeople were affected by marauding Vikings, the Norman army of William the Conqueror in 1066 and the desperate sieges of civil wars in the 12th and 17th centuries.
Two 20th century World Wars affected many families in the town - from digging of trenches in the Kinecroft for training soldiers, to the arrival of dozens of evacuees (including Sheila Hancock), who needed homes and special school arrangements. Then there's the role of our modern soldiers and airmen - The Rifles and RAF Benson who have the Freedom of the Town and are on active service right now. It's a story of lives and people over the centuries that is both fascinating and moving.
There is also the expanded 'At home with the Queen of Crime: Agatha Christie' where new information has been presented that has been learned from several people in the town who came into contact with the famous crime writer. You can also see the 'Midsomer Murders' display, showing the Wallingford connections with this popular TV series.
Of course our 'resident' attractions also include 'The Wallingford Story' - a sight-and-sound experience.
