Roman Baths

Roman Baths

The Roman Baths is a favourite for children and their teachers to find out about the Romans and Roman Britain, and children can work with original Roman material..

We have a specially designed education space with a stunning view overlooking the Great Bath. It is probably the only teaching space in Britain in which children are positively encouraged to look out of the window! It is definitely the only one with a secret floor panel, through which you can look down to the great Roman drain four metres below!

Key Stage 1

1-hour interactive sessions based on the National Curriculum are held at the Roman Baths. Pupils will be encouraged to develop their speaking and listening skills in whole class, small group and by individual work.

Roman Times

A 1-hour activity session exploring Roman life in Bath. Take a view on the past, try on togas and handle real Roman objects.

Key Stage 2

Roman Life

A 60 minute activity session which covers general aspects of Roman life. Handle Roman artefacts for either bathing, buildings and technology or cooking and food. Add two choices from Togas and tunics, Write on or Marvellous mosaics.

Meet the Romans!

This 60 minute interactive session exploring history, literacy, numeracy and art is an opportunity to touch real Roman artefacts. Try the 'counter challenge' and take a view on the past.

Key Stages 3 & 4

Romans Revisited
The observation, investigation and handling of artefacts and sources offers pupils the chance to explore Roman bathing and Roman life at this historic site. This also encourages them to make important links to their own lives today.

This session allows pupils to build upon key skills, such as evaluation and interpretation, as well as encouraging them to come to well-reasoned conclusions based on analysis of evidence.
