Northern Ireland Assembly

Northern Ireland Assembly

The Northern Ireland Assembly, also known as Stormont, is the home of democracy in Northern Ireland.

The Parliament Buildings are open to the public between 9.00am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday. Visitors are welcome to attend Assembly debates and Committee Meetings. Please check our business diary for further information.

Visitors may also take a tour, relax in our gift & coffee shop and enjoy a walk around Stormont Estate which is a public park.

Take one of our free twice daily tours, Monday to Friday at 11.00am and 2.00pm, which gives you the chance to have good look around the ‘House on the Hill’ where your MLAs debate important issues, or walk around the beautiful grounds of Stormont Estate!

Education Service

Our Education Service provides educational programmes and resources to support teaching and learning about the Assembly and encourages the participation of young people in the democratic process.

We provide free education programmes and resources for young people, teachers, youth leaders, or anyone who wants to learn about the role of the Assembly and the work we do.

Working with MLAs, the Education Service aims to engage with young people, helping them to understand how:

  • the Assembly is relevant to them;
  • democracy works; and
  • to take part in the democratic process.

We have designed our programmes and resources to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to influence decisions that concern them.

Experience the Assembly and learn how it works.

Bring the Assembly to your classroom.

You can access lesson suggestions linked to web-based multimedia activities, including games, animation, video, a comic and other printed material on our Teachers section.
