Northampton County Archive
Northampton County Archive
Northamptonshire Archives hold a range of documents covering the history of our county from Norman times to the present day. The aim of the Heritage Education Service is to make this information accessible to school children of all ages.
We work in schools and at special events throughout the county and offer taught sessions using original documents.
Classroom Resources
We have a range of National Curriculum linked classroom resources:
- Crime and Punishment, 1750 - 1900 (GCSE)
- Farming through the centuries, 14th to 20th centuries (KS2)
- Medieval Realms, 1066 - 1500 (KS3)
- The Victorians 1837 - 1901 (KS2)
- World War One 1914 - 1918 (KS3)
- World War Two 1939 - 1945 (KS2)
Packs cost £10.00 (plus £2.50 postage and packing) and include maps, documents and images. They provide background information, activity suggestions and key questions. For an additional £5 there is a CD of images accompanying each pack.
To order one or more of these packs, please print out and complete the form below, and return it to the Record Office, with payment.
Taught Lessons
We can come to your school and deliver lessons on a variety of themes linked. All sessions are tailored to the needs of your school, and delivered by an experienced teacher.
Alternatively, school groups are welcome to visit the Record Office. Visits include a tour of the building, which explains how we care for and preserve the collections we hold for future generations, and allows the children to see original documents.
A half day session costs £50 for NCC schools, £70 for non-NCC schools. To request a session, please complete the booking form below, and return it to the address on the form.
If you have any questions about the Heritage Education Service, please email us and we will do our best to help.
Presentations and Tours of the Record Office
We offer tours of the Record Office to groups of between 10 and 20 people and a range of powerpoint based presentations to groups and societies in the county. Please see our fees and charges page for further details.
These must be booked in advance, and where a member of staff is giving a presentation away from the Record Office, the expectation should be that at least 15 people will be present.
