Nelson Museum
One of Norfolk and England’s greatest heroes
The Nelson Museum celebrates the life and times of Admiral Lord Nelson. Find out about his remarkable naval career, the sea battles he won, his Norfolk childhood, scandalous love life and untimely death at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Packed with dramatic and moving details the museum also offers ships' games, family fun days and a garden for picnics.

Education
The Nelson Museum offers the following learning opportunities:
- Visits to the museum - Of a duration to suit you; although most school visits are typically one to two hours. If you wish to stay for lunch we have picnic tables in the Maritime Courtyard for sunny days or a large room for rainy days (please note this room is not fully accessible).
- Education sessions - Tailored to suit your requirements. Sessions include Nelson as a Local Hero and Life Aboard Ship.
- Outreach visits - If you can't visit the museum we'll bring the museum to you. Whether it is a school assembly or classroom session our outreach visits will make history come alive!
- CD-based Education Pack - Divided into four main themes of Life on Board, Food on Board, Costume and Navigation with images and lesson suggestions included. The CD costs £15 and purchase of it entitles you to use of the Loan Boxes.
- Loan Boxes - Based on Life Aboard Ship, the loan boxes contain objects for your group to examine and handle as well as copies of papers, documents and booklets. The boxes are available for hire for two weeks and hire is inclusive of the £15 purchase of the Education CD. We advise, due to high demand, that loan boxes are booked well in advance. To arrange hire, please email loan box co-ordinator Alison Green.
- Crew's Quarters - Our new learning and education room is available to schools for their visits. Led sessions are usually taught in here but it is also accessible during self-led visits. A mini handling collection is available in this space and we have a special pre-school corner for 0-5 year olds.
