About Colomendy

The 130 acre site is located just off the A55, set deep in a beautiful valley designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Surrounded by scenic hills and woodlands, it is one of the UK’s finest education and adventure centres. The huge site remains peaceful even when full, with vast open spaces for children, brimming with wildlife like badgers, bats, eagles, newts and woodpeckers.

The centre boasts a £1 million adventure park with three huge climbing and abseiling towers, high and low rope activities, a 3G swing, a 200 metre giant zipwire and a major simulated caving system built into a natural rock seam. The River Alyn runs through the Northern end of the site, and alongside this is a purpose-built watersports lake. The centre site is fully secure with boundary fencing, security gates and CCTV.

Colomendy is the perfect centre for any age group of students, with great facilities for environmental programmes. Geography, Biology and Field Study courses take advantage of the rich local environment available for GCSE and A Level students. With a river and woodland on-site, students do not have far to travel, and Loggerheads Country Park, opposite the centre gates makes for spectacular environmental and historical walks.

Accommodation and Catering

Colomendy can accommodate up to 400 young people, sleeping in en-suite and standard rooms from twin beds to 12 bed dormitories.

Pupils sleep in warm purpose-built dormitory-style accommodation, with gender-separated bathroom and shower facilities. Sheets, duvets and pillows are provided for all guests and teacher rooms are close by.

There is a chill out zone for older students with Blue-ray, sofa's and bean bags and computers and a games room with a ping pong table and pool table for all students.

To fuel young guests during a long day of thrilling adventure activities, we serve three hot meals per day, with lots of choice and seasonal variations. Each day there is a carefully balanced nutritional meal plan, recently updated to meet and exceed the latest Government standards on children’s meals.

Teacher Facilities

Our recently refreshed teacher bedrooms are complete with contemporary furnishings, tea and coffee making facilities and radio-alarm/iPod docking stations.

Colomendy has a large Teachers retreat equipped with hot drink making facilities and comfy sofas to warm up after a chilly day in the woods and enjoy the beautiful view of Moel Famau in the distance and the surrounding area. There are internet enabled computers for visiting adults to check emails, contact home via Skype and to book next year's trip! Group leaders also have the opportunity to join a local art group on Thursday mornings to test their painting or drawing skills in our Meeting room.
