Firepower - The Royal Artillery Museum

Explore the greatest collection of artillery in the UK and discover their fascinating history, and learn about the roles of Gunners. Free entry for kids under 4 years old.

There is plenty to see and find out in a variety of different displays and exhibits, some of which are audiovisual. There are also clearly written information panels.

The Medal Gallery is definitely worth a look, with some really rare items, plus they represent heroic acts that have deserved recognition. The History Gallery will allow kids to explore the timeline of artillery through the ages and there is also the opportunity to find out about modern Gunners and what it is like for them during wartime. Don’t miss the Gunnery Hall, with is packed with vehicles and weapons from the 20th Century.

The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful, so they will be happy to answer any questions that the kids should have.

There is a Camo Zone especially for kids with activities such as a Bungee Run and Firing range. Please note that there is an additional charge. Children’s parties and Sleepovers are also available.

Firepower is the UK’s oldest military museum. The Royal Arsenal Woolwich site was one of the world’s most important centres for munitions manufacture between 1716-1964. As a result it was heavily bombed during both World Wars.

Many of our museum’s guns were made by local people working here at Woolwich. These include air raid guns used by civilians to protect London’s skies during the Second World War.
