Down at the Farm

We have been operating since 2007 and are currently a 60-acre traditional mixed working farm with beef cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. A well as being a real working farm, we also have zoo status, recognising our commitment to the welfare and conservation of exotic species. We are able to provide a unique educational experience for schools because we are not open to the public during term time.

We have cows, sheep, pigs, reindeer, donkeys, raccoons, skunks, owls, alpacas, rabbits, chicks, emus, goats to name but a few.

We offer 2 cost effective packages to suit schools needs depending on how much time you wish to interact with our staff and the animals. We are visited by hundreds of schools who come back each year because of the bespoke experience we can offer.

We feel that by staying closed to the public, we can give your children our full attention and freedom to learn and play in our farm setting. Our experience is very hands on and children can learn and observe all aspects of the farm first hand. Our staff all have first- hand experience of animals and farming.

We encourage animal interaction as much as we can including stroking, feeding, grooming animals to enhance the learning experience.

Each group has a guide to take them around the farm for the duration of their visit – we provide one member of staff to 30-35 children.

Activities can include:

Feeding the animals around the farm, Hold/stroke the rabbits, Wash the pigs,  Meet the chicks, discuss lifecycles, Meet the hens & collect the eggs, Bottle feeding lambs,  Groom the Donkeys, Tractor/Trailer ride to meet the cows, Santa & his real reindeer (December only) Each activity we provide is an opportunity for your children to learn about the importance of farming and animal care – we provide information for your class on varying levels according to age and ability so that children can really understand why farming is so important.

Hand washing

Children will be asked to wash their hands after each activity. We will provide hand gel after some activities and soap and water for others, particularly before lunchtime. We always ask that teachers assist us in making sure that all children have washed their hands properly.

We are a farm that believes in flexibility so if you do have any specific requirements, for example outdoor play time, please let us know.
