German Occupation Museum

German Occupation Museum

German Occupation Museum is an excellent place to learn about what it was like on Guernsey during the five years of German occupation during the second World War. Not only can you see military artefacts such as an anti tank gun and a 4 wheel enigma machine, but you can also get a sense of what it was like for the people during that time.

It is worth reading the personal diaries that were kept, in secret, by the locals.

There are several dioramas, including one showing a reconstructed of a Guernsey household during 1944. Occupation Street has recreated shop fronts of the time with a lot of original artefacts on display for the kids to take a look at.

Please be aware that some children (and adults) may find some of the exhibitions and information a little upsetting due to its nature. It is worth allowing a couple of hours to take in everything that this little place has to offer.
