National Museum Cardiff

Situated in the heart of Cardiff’s elegant civic centre, today it houses Wales’s national archaeology, art, geology and natural history collections as well as major touring and temporary exhibitions.

Two wealthy Welsh sisters bequeathed their large art collection to the museum in the mid 20th century, resulting in Cardiff having one of the largest collections of Impressionist paintings outside of Paris. With works by Renoir, Monet and Cezanne on display, this truly is a must for art lovers. As well as Impressionist work, there is an impressive collection of Welsh art from 15th century onwards, pre-raphaelite works and Dutch and Italian paintings.

The National Museum Cardiff is also home to the new National Museum of Art, for Wales, featuring the full range of the nation's world-class art collection. For the first time, the National Museum's mix of fine and applied art from the historic to the contemporary is shown in a single series of integrated galleries, giving a new visibility to art in Wales and to the art of Wales.
