Coronavrus Information for Travelers

Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a new respiratory illness that has not previously been seen in humans. it belongs to a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).

This is obviously very worrying if you are embarking on a school trip abroad in the near future. 

There are special recommendations in place for travelers heading to and from:

Mainland China;

Cambodia;

Hong Kong;

Iran;

Northern Italy;

Japan;

Laos;

Macao;

Malaysia;

Myanmar (Burma);

Singapore; 

South Korea;

]Taiwan;

Thailand; and

Vietnam

Travelers should follow sensible precautions to stay safe while they are outside of the UK. These precautions include:

  • If you are traveling from the UK, refer to the gov.uk website and for information on any travel restrictions, 
  • Check that your travel insurance has not changed following the outbreak,
  • Contact your tour operator for up to fate information on the potential changes and restrictions that my occur
  • Be aware that there may be enhanced screening/monitoring at entry and exit ports. You may also be required to self-isolate for a set period, even if you do not have symptoms on your return.

Whilst traveling, the NHS advise:

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
